Liverpool have been put on alert after two big European sides reportedly made their interest in Mohamed Salah known.
Salah is in the final year of his contract at Liverpool alongside Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, sparking speculation about his future.
The Egyptian star was previously offered a highly lucrative move to the Saudi Pro League but signed a contract extension in 2022.
Yet his intentions are unclear this time around after he sent Liverpool a reminder after scoring in the 3-0 win over Manchester United.
Salah:
“This is my last year with the club and I want to enjoy it," he said. "I feel I am free to play football – we will see what happens next year.”
Liverpool have tried to give off a feeling of calm around the situation, with manager Arne Slotand sporting director Richard Hughes playing down concerns
But their stance is allowing Salah to run down his contract ahead of a potential free transfer next summer.
Salah has 214 goals and 92 assists in 352 games for Liverpool and, unsurprisingly, has attracted interest from other clubs.
El Nacional reports that Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain have both enquired about the 32-year-old, while Al-Ittihad could once again make him an offer.
Liverpool are currently paying Salah around £350,000-a-week – a club-record amount which is giving them pause for thought
There have been suggestions that his wages have ‘rocked the boat’ in the dressing room – and Liverpool are reluctant to renew his contract on similar terms due to his age and the potential ramifications for others.
former Arsenal striker Ian Wright thinks Salah is worth the knock-on effects.
Wright
“I believe that he will probably stay if Liverpool go about it,”
“And I know that people get very nervy around giving contracts to people in their 30s, but I think that he’s an exception in the way that he prepares himself and plays.”
Slot has been delighted with Salah’s start to the season, which has seen him contribute three goals and three assists in three Premier League matches.
Asked about Salah’s eye-catching comments at Old Trafford, the Dutchman downplayed their significance.
Slot
“It’s a lot of ‘if’. At this moment he is one of ours and I am really happy with him being one of ours and he played really well,”
“I don’t talk about contracts from players but I can talk for hours about how Mo played today.”
