Mohamed Salah has reiterated his determination to end the season at Liverpool as a Premier League winner after claiming there has been "no progress" made on a new contract at Anfield.
The Egypt captain has scored 17 goals to help the Reds into a position that sees them six clear at the summit
Despite such blistering form, however, Salah remains inside the final six months of the biggest contract that has ever been handed out at the club,
As a result, the forward is now able to speak to teams outside of England about joining as a free agent at the end of the current campaign
Salah is keen to stay put at Liverpool and it is understood his agent, Ramy Abbas, is on Merseyside this weekend
Salah revealed to a handful of publications in November, after the 3-2 win at Southampton, that he was disappointed yet to be offered new terms by the Reds
speaking to Sky Sports ahead of the weekend's game with Ruben Amorim's team, the former Roma winger has said that the two parties are still some way short of an agreement.
Salah
"Do I believe this is my last season? So far, yeah. It's the last six months,"
"There is nothing, no progress there and we are far away from any progress, so we just need to wait and see.
"I think the thing in my head is like: OK if this is your last six months or year, what do you want to see in the future? Do you want to look back and say I was concerned about the contract or stressed? Or just that I had an unbelievable season? That is in my head now all the time.
"If I think there is any kind of distraction, I remind myself I want to look back and say I had an unbelievable season. So that is what I want to do.
"It's in my head to be fair [to be remembered as the best] but if you win the trophy and you are probably going to be up there, so hopefully I can make the difference, make the team win the trophy and whatever when I end my career, there is always going to be a discussion.
"People are going to prefer Stevie G (Steven Gerrard), people prefer me, people will prefer Kenny Dalglish. So you can't control that because people are not always going to agree on a player.
“But being in that conversation is a great thing, so if I look back eight years ago, I would have never dreamed of this. But then you dream and you have ambition and I am very proud to be in that conversation."
Salah added: "Every time I have time off, I go with the family, I see my parents, then with the family and then I have one or two days alone just to write my target for next season and, yeah, that happens every holiday.
“The first thing on the list was to win the Premier League with Liverpool. If you see my interviews from the last seven or eight years, I always say Champions League.
“But this is the first time I say I really want to win the Premier League with Liverpool.
"I've no idea [why Premier League is now above the Champions League] but probably because we didn't celebrate the one we won the way we wanted.
“Also, coming back here, it is my last year at the club, so you want to do something special for the city. That was the thing in my head.
"I am very honest with myself and what I need to improve now. Maybe my shape needs to be better, maybe the way I play needs to be better, the way I shoot, I need to be more calm, different stuff, I am very into details.
“Because I have nothing to do for two days, I literally just sit, no phone, nothing, just with my mind and anything that comes there, I just write it.
"I am really, really motivated to win the Premier League and maybe the manager has come with a different idea that can help the team because we were with Jurgen for seven years, so maybe things changed slightly to make us want it more, to win more.
“But it doesn't mean that before we didn't want to but this is football, change can help the team. So I think I have never been motivated to win the Premier League like I do now.
"I always try to give my best, if we win trophies or not. But again, I told you, my motivation is to win the trophy and be a big part for winning the trophy, especially the Premier League.
“I think we need another one, we won almost everything but won it once, so hopefully to win it twice will be great.
"Honestly, the most important thing for me is to win the Premier League and to be a big part of it.
“Not just to be like OK, like anyone who had a small part. I want to win it and people be like: 'OK, he made the difference and made the team win'.
“But it is not easy at all, I've been in this position before, last year, maybe a year before. It is really tricky.”
"Arsenal is catching us, Chelsea is catching us, Forest is catching us, Man City will be back for sure, so it is very tricky.
“So we just stay focused, don't take it for granted and keep working hard and hopefully we win it in the end."
