May 25th is one of the most iconic days in Liverpool’s history, having won both their first and fifth European Cups on such a date.
It could still prove to be the date of Jurgen Klopp’s final match as Reds manager too, with this year’s FA Cup final taking place on Saturday 25 May at Wembley.
Yet last year, it was a day that left Mohamed Salah ‘devastated’. It was the day that Liverpool were officially left unable to qualify for this season’s Champions League
Admittedly, the Reds would have been well-aware of that likely fate for quite some time. But that didn’t stop Salah from airing his frustrations on social media barely minutes after the final whistle at Old Trafford
Salah wrote
“I’m totally devastated. There’s absolutely no excuse for this,”
"We had everything we needed to make it to next year’s Champions League and we failed.
“We are Liverpool and qualifying to the competition is the bare minimum. I am sorry but it’s too soon for an uplifting or optimistic post. We let you and ourselves down.”
fast forward another 10 months, and Liverpool are back to their best after an £150m midfield overhaul.
Klopp’s men have already won the League Cup, beating Chelsea 1-0 AET last month
Salah
"I don't want to take anything from the (previous) players,” Salah told Premier League Productions when asked what is different from two years ago at Anfield.
“They help a lot in the team in the past. They were unbelievable here. All the players who left were unbelievable.
"This year I would say (it's a) different squad, but the players are very hungry. We have a good chance to win everything.
"We just need to give it a proper try. We have nothing to lose, (so) just give it a try and see.
“Now, I love the whole squad, I think the players are really into football. Players want to achieve big things, they're really respectful and they ask a lot of questions, which is what I love.
“When you ask a question that means you really want to learn something. That's the key for me.”
Salah has rarely missed a game for Liverpool because of injury during his time with the club, making his latest lay-off a strange sensation.
