Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka shuts down Alan Shearer over Diogo Jota and Liverpool penalty

Martin Dubravka says there is "no point arguing" over the Diogo Jota penalty incident - describing the Liverpool star as a "clever guy" following their 4-2 defeat

Jota raced through on goal in the dying embers of Liverpool's win over the Magpies before he was brought down by the Slovakian shot-stopper

That foul on the Portugal international sparked another talking point from a hectic encounter

Newcastle icon Alan Shearer describing the incident as "f****** embarrassing."

Mohamed Salah stepped up to convert the spot-kick to round off the scoring in the six-goal thriller

Dubravka

"It is a frustration because he's a clever guy,"

"I tried to pull my arms and not catch him. I felt the contact but I don't know what else I should do.

"In the end it was a penalty, so there's no point in arguing with them. With the VAR... I don't know what to say. I tried to save another penalty [from Salah] but it was just a gamble."

Klopp's side dominated throughout the contest, breaking a Premier League record for expected goals (xG) after peppering the visitors' goal with 34 efforts on goal.

Salah's late penalty made it a brace for the evening, adding to goals from Curtis Jones and Cody Gakpo,

Dubravka added:

"It was a rollercoaster game, it's difficult to lose, especially 4-2 when we were so close - it was a tight game. Unfortunately, they created so many chances and they were clinical at the end, it's a disappointing one for us.

"It was a busy night, very entertaining for the fans, hopefully they (the fans) enjoyed it but unfortunately we couldn't give them something to cheer, it didn't happen today.

"There's another game in a couple of days, we need to be ready for that because it's one of the biggest games of our lives."
