Paul Merson has been left starstruck by Liverpool sensation Dominik Szoboszlai.
The Reds fought off competition from mega-rich Newcastle United to sign Szobozlai in the summer
it is safe to suggest any doubts about Szoboszlai price tag have been quashed.
Initially signed as an offensive player, the 23-year-old has played deeper under Jurgen Klopp
That has allowed Szobozlai to express his playmaking and box-to-box abilities, with some crowning him as the new Steven Gerrard.
Szobozlai has already become a fans’ favourite on the Kop. Merson revealed the midfielder has “blown” him away with his performances this season.
Merson
“Dominik Szoboszlai has come in and blown people away with his performances but Alexis Mac Allister is a top player too,”
"He’s playing as a No.6, which isn’t really his usual position. But Liverpool are winning games right now so it shouldn’t matter, at least until they sign a specialist defensive midfielder.
Merson is also expecting Thiago Alcantara to seek pastures new in the coming months.
Merson said;
“Thiago Alcantara has been incredibly unlucky with injuries but I'd be shocked if he stayed at Liverpool beyond this season,”
“The Reds are unlikely to offload him in January because he's still a top player when he's fit but, at the end of the season, I can see him moving on as a free agent.”
