Richard Keys has warned Jurgen Klopp that he may "regret" leaving his role as Liverpool manager.
Klopp stunned the world of football last week when he announced that he would be stepping down from his role at Anfield.
The 56-year-old has been in charge of the Reds since October 2015 and has won seven major trophies so far
Ever since the announcement, there has been speculation over who could be Klopp's successor in the Anfield dugout.
Xabi Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen is the early favourite with the bookmakers
One of the reasons Klopp gave for his impending departure is that he is "running out of energy"
Now the Reds boss has been sent a warning by Keys over his decision.
Keys argued that legendary former Liverpool manager Bill Shankly, who resigned from his role back in 1974, regretted leaving Anfield when he did.
Keys:
I would add this as a word of warning to Jurgen Klopp,"
"He's five years young - Shankly went at 61 [years old], Klopp is 56.
"Bill Shankly regretted leaving Liverpool every day for the remainder of his life once he had gone - every day.
"It gnawed away at him and he knew he shouldn't have done it."
