Ryan Gravenberch clarifies Liverpool future and addresses manager fall out

Ryan Gravenberch has insisted he was not frustrated with his first season at Liverpool despite finding himself in and out of Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Gravenberch started brightly for the Reds after his £40m deadline day move from Bayern Munich

Gravenberch later struggled for consistency before suffering an ankle injury in the League Cup final against Chelsea.

Gravenberch made 38 appearances during his first season at Liverpool, returning four goals and two assists.

However, only 21 of them came from the start, while he started only 12 of his 26 Premier League appearances.

The Netherlands international enjoyed more game time than he did during his solitary season with Bayern, where he started just five of his 31 Bundesliga and Champions League appearances for the club.

Gravenberch has admitted he considers his first season at Liverpool a success as he looks to secure a place in the Netherlands squad for Euro 2024.

Gravenberch

“That's why I'm satisfied with my season at Liverpool,"

“I wanted to make more minutes and I succeeded.

“I have played good matches, but also lesser ones. No, I'm not as tired as I am after a season where you've played everything. I haven't played everything.

“Can that freshness be an advantage? Well, I'm ready if you ask me. Anyway, first let's be part of the final selection.”

Gravenberch also revealed he is yet to speak with new Liverpool head coach Arne Slot following appointment at Anfield

Gravenberch added

“A top club, I hope to play here for years to come,”

“And soon a Dutch trainer with Arne Slot.

“No, I've never spoken to him. Not even during my time as an Ajax player. But he is a trainer who likes attacking football. That should suit me, you would think. We will see.”

Meanwhile, Gravenberch also broke his silence on his falling out with Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman

Gravenberch still stands by his decision last year, and now considers the matter closed after speaking to Koeman.

Gravenberch explained

“Because at that moment I thought it was necessary,”

“I had a conversation with Ronald Koeman and I think it is closed.

“It will no longer play a role, otherwise the national coach will not call me for this internship, I think.

“I haven't booked a summer holiday yet. We will wait until the final selection. It's been a long time since I was here. I don't even remember exactly when I last took action.

“A minute against Belgium in September 2022? Go figure. But I'm back, that's the most important thing.

“And I'm still the Ryan Gravenberch from back then. The qualities are the same. And I want to show that here."
