Colombia manager Nestor Lorenzo has defended Liverpool attacker Luis Diaz as he warns against depending on the 26-year-old as their "saviour".
The Reds forward will be looking to help his country extend their unbeaten start to the World Cup qualifiers when they take on Uruguay in Barranquilla.
Uruguay, managed by Marcelo Bielsa, are looking to bounce back from their 2-1 defeat to Ecuador last time out.
There will be extra incentive for Liverpool attacker Darwin Nunez who goes head-to-head with his Anfield teammate.
With Diaz's performances for the Reds causing excitement in his native Colombia, leading to a stint wearing the captain's armband, Lorenzo has called upon supporters to temper their expectations.
Lorenzo
"We don't have the formula, let's say, the first thing we did was tell him that I don't want the responsibility of the team to weigh on Luis. I think he has played very good games in the national team,"
"What happens is that people expect there to be four goals per game and that is not normal.
"I think his performance has been good and I hope he improves with training and getting to know his team-mates. In football, partnerships are needed in some sectors of the field, where it is playing and playing and training."
Lorenzo added
"We have a lot of confidence in him, in his work and in his role. We don't want him to be the saviour either, giving him that responsibility that people want to give him. I notice that if he doesn't score two goals he played badly and that's not the case.
"What happens is that in Liverpool he plays every three days and in Colombia he plays every month or two months."
Meanwhile, Diaz will be walking a tightrope as he runs the risk of suspension for Colombia's upcoming World Cup qualifier on Tuesday against Ecuador.
