Thierry Henry highlights unseen Darwin Nunez role in controversial Liverpool goal

Thierry Henry has praised the technique of Darwin Nunez following his match-winning goal for Liverpool.

The Reds claimed a dramatic 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest on Saturday

Nunez's goal came in the ninth minute of second-half stoppage time, which has since led to plenty of controversy.

Forest were angry after referee Paul Tierneyawarded Liverpool possession from a drop ball following a stoppage

Liverpool then scored just under two minutes later, which has since led to fierce debate among fans and pundits around the decision from Tierney.

Henry went on to analyse Nunez's technique in scoring the winning goal from a header.

He handed particular praise to Alexis Mac Allister, as well as Nunez, for the midfielder's role in the goal.

The Arsenal legend went on to explain how Nunez was able to gain an advantage over the Forest defenders in the lead-up to the goal.

Henry

"First and foremost, the one thing he [Nunez] does ever so well is that he goes back into an onside position straight away"

"He puts his body into a position of, 'I am going to have an opportunity to score'. Because why? Mac Allister has told you he is going to cross the ball because he looked, it’s not telepathic, he looked while he was turning.

"The [Forest] centre-backs, those two guys are still stepping forward at that moment, you can’t step forward when someone is about to cross it, you need to be on your standing leg to make sure you can jump as high as possible and clear the ball, but they cannot jump high and clear that ball.

"He [Nunez] can, he is attacking the ball. He’s the only one with [Virgil] Van Dijk who stays there the whole time, he is the only one. If you are a Nottingham Forest defender, as a coach I am like, 'Do you not realise that Mac Allister has the ball?'

"He [Mac Allister] looked, he turned, he crossed and you are still stepping out. He would [Nunez] have never been offside because Van Dijk was battling a player at the back with a Forest player."
