Klopp has revealed Trent Alexander-Arnold’s mum was ‘worried’ when the German took over
Trent’s mother feared that her son might not get an opportunity under him.
Trent was yet to make his professional debut for Liverpool when Klopp took over from Brendan Rodgers back in 2015.
Aged just 17 then, the full-back would have to wait another year to get his opportunity in the first-team.
There was a fear among the parents of the club’s academy players though that Rodgers’ departure, and Klopp’s arrival, would prevent their sons from breaking into the side.
Trent’s emergence soon put that anxiety to rest.
Now 25, Alexander-Arnold has made 309 appearances in total for Liverpool, all under Klopp’s management.
Klopp was paid a visit by Alexander-Arnold’s mum, who thanked him for his impact at Anfield. She also lifted the lid on the concerns the parents had when he first joined the club.
Klopp
“This morning Trent's mum was here, she wanted to say thank you and goodbye,”
“She told me what she thought when Brendan left and I came in.
“They told her before [that] when your boy is that age you need an English manager because other managers don't look at the academy. She was really worried.
“How that all worked out was a beautiful story.”
The parents needn’t have worried. Under Klopp’s guidance, there have been plenty of opportunities for Liverpool’s youngsters to break into the first-team.
