Trent Alexander-Arnold sets two new targets as Liverpool position under scrutiny

Trent Alexander-Arnold has long and short-term aims in mind as he attempts to be the creative force behind Liverpool's dash to the season's finish line.

wherever he's playing the 24-year-old wants to be a driving force behind his side's attacks.

"It's somewhat of a milestone, but it's just a stepping stone to what I want to achieve," said Trent of his 50th assist. "A big number would be 100!

"But it is nice to get to that 50 mark and it shows that I'm on the right path.

"It is something that I like to do, to create and assist and get involved in the goals, so it's good to reach that mark and hopefully there's many more to come."

The Reds are likely to need to win every game remaining in their season in order to gain a place back at European football's top table

In the 2020-21 campaign, the season after they were champions, Liverpool sat eighth in the table and seven points off the top four with 10 games of an injury-ravaged campaign remaining.

They would win eight of those 10 games to finish third -

Trent added:

"There's definitely similarities in terms of not really being where we want to be in the league at this point of the season

But like then we still have targets and are trying to reach what we want, which is obviously the top four.

"Given the experiences we've had, we can learn from them and use them to our advantage, so that [strong finish] is something we can do this time around as well because we've been through similar things a couple of seasons ago."

"This season we've struggled with consistency after good results," he said.

"We've not really been able to follow them up with a second or third in a row.

Of course we want to win every game but the most important thing is getting a good run of form and getting momentum at this time of the season.

"If we can find that then we can look towards top four, but first and foremost is getting some consistency on board.

"I'm excited for the game, earlier in the season it wasn't a great result but it's about learning from what happened."
