Virgil van Dijk confirms Trent Alexander-Arnold plan and clears up Jeremy Doku issue

Jurgen Klopp has long insisted he wants Liverpool to be the most uncomfortable team to play against in the Premier League.

When it comes to difficult positions of their own, his new-look side are becoming adept at digging themselves out of trouble.

Such resilience, character and unwillingness to buckle have proven cornerstones in a run of just one loss in 24 Premier League outings

Van Dijk said

"Obviously you don’t want to go behind first and foremost, but when you do you have to make sure you keep doing the same things and keep to the plan you had before the game and show that extra resilience,"

"But second half especially we did so much better and we know with the quality we have we could create chances. Even in the first half we had good opportunities to score and in the end I think it’s a fair result.

“Hopefully it’s a very important point and a good improvement from last season’s result and also the way we reacted to going 1-0 down shows we are on a good way. If you look at the result, everyone should be happy with it."

Van Dijk added

“All those seasons we were close or won the league, we didn’t get carried away,"

"We took it game by game and that’s the motivation and mindset we should have.

"It’s no secret we want to challenge for everything we are competing in and this year we are looking consistent, something we were missing last year.

"But we are in November with a difficult period coming up, difficult games ahead of us and anything can happen, but hopefully if we don’t get many injuries we can just see what the season brings.

"But we have to be confident and give it everything, and we have an enjoy it as well especially after the disappointment of last season."

Trent Alexander-Arnold earned Liverpool a deserved point at the Etihad with his first goal of the season late on, having earlier been given a thorough examination of his defensive capabilities by dangerous City winger Jeremy Doku.

Van Dijk says: “I think every defender one v one against him will have a tough afternoon, he’s a very good dribbler. I don’t think he (Alexander-Arnold) had a tough afternoon on the whole but it’s how you defend together and try to get two v one situations.

"He’s still defensively very good and obviously in possession he has qualities that are very special, so he has the complete package. He has to keep doing what he’s doing, keep improving, keep that high standard he has for himself and we all have for him as well."
