Virgil van Dijk has urged Liverpool supporters to bring the noise ahead of a season-defining week at a revamped Anfield.
The Reds beat West Ham United in their League Cup quarter-final on Wednesday, next is the visit of fellow Premier League title contenders Arsenal on Saturday evening
Liverpool played in front of their third-highest home league crowd in history when, with the new Anfield Road End upper tier partially opened, 57,158
A combination of the upper tier having been previously closed, a number of 12.30pm kick-offs and a lack of Champions League football has contributed to an often subdued atmosphere inside Anfield
With Liverpool setting to play in front of a record home League Cup crowd on Wednesday, Reds skipper Van Dijk has called on supporters to crank up the volume
Van Dijk
"It was special to play in front of the newly opened Anfield Road Stand on Sunday and to be honest it left me wanting more,"
"The atmosphere at kick-off time was incredible and probably as loud as I have heard it this season so the extra supporters in there definitely made a difference.
"Someone said afterwards that the attendance was the biggest that there has been at Anfield for 60 years so it was definitely a privilege to be a part of that.
"But what I mean when I say it left me wanting more is that having the new stand open and soon to be totally full gives us an opportunity as team and fans to make the atmosphere even better."
Van Dijk added:
"Our appetite has been whetted now so it stands to reason that we will all want more and I can tell everyone from my own experience that when Anfield is at full pelt it gives every Liverpool player a massive boost.
"Now that we have extra supporters and extra voices in the stadium, hopefully we can also have extra noise and passion. That’s a pretty exciting thought."
