Virgil van Dijk has bluntly shut down an interviewer after again being asked about his Liverpool contract.
The Reds skipper’s current deal expires at the end of the season, along with Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The Athletic reported last week that the club had made a formal opening offer to Van Dijk, but it did not meet his demands.
The 33-year-old has previously been relaxed when quizzed about his future, and has not been shy of admitting he favours staying put at Anfield.
However, he seemingly had little time for further questions about his future after Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over Girona
The centre-back helped the Reds keep a clean sheet in Spain, but Arne Slot’s men were not at their best on the night as their head coach aired his frustrations after the final whistle.
And after offering a brief response when asked about Mohamed Salah, aware the question was alluding to the Egyptian’s future, the Dutchman quickly interrupted the interviewer before offering a blunt response about his own contract situation.
“Mohamed Salah is not letting anything distract from his performances at the moment, is he? Another important goal today?” Van Dijk was initially asked.
“A very important goal, definitely,” he replied. “
“Good. We have to keep going, including himself as well.”
“And just a word on contract talks,” he was then asked as Van Dijk swiftly interjected to shut the question down.
“There is no word,” he said. Van Dijk would then repeat, ‘No word’
‘No news to bring,’ following further failed attempts from the interviewer to get the Liverpool captain to open up about his future.
