Wataru Endo has laughed off comments from Jurgen Klopp that were taken out of context after Liverpool's 2-1 win against Newcastle
It was a difficult day for Klopp's men before the late intervention from Nunez with the Reds playing over two thirds of the fixture a man down following Virgil van Dijk's red card
Endo made his full Premier League debut in that game alongside Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister in midfield
Endo has no clue on what we actually do," Klopp said after the game in reference to the limited amount of time the player had to work with his new colleagues
The comments were carried by certain sections of the media as Klopp criticising his new £16m man, with the quotes making news in Japan as a result.
Endo, however, has dismissed the way the words were presented by some areas of the media
Endo:
The mistranslation? I got that call from a friend! (laughs)"
"Certainly, it is difficult to convey nuances in Japanese. I didn't care at all. Because I'm actually meeting the coach (Klopp).
"We didn't talk a lot, but we're together after the game, and we know that we can't criticise you all of a sudden."
"And to some extent, I understand English. There will be nuances before and after... If you look only at the cut part [from the media], it may look like criticism.
"I feel that I came to a big club because of that kind of response. I've never been so much attention.
But I basically don't care about that in the media. I guess the media is also part of the business. Well, but supporters, please don't let the media dance too much. I'm sorry to say this to the media (laughs)."
Endo added:
"[The move to Liverpool] was really steep. Originally, I had heard from my agent that there might be an offer from somewhere, but in reality, nothing starts unless an offer comes to the club.
"I had heard from my agent that there were only a few possibilities, including mid-tier clubs in the Premier League, so I was happy when I heard the offer. I heard the offer on the 18th (of August), and from there it was furious.
"I immediately flew to England, did a medical check, signed an autograph, [was] taking pictures and being interviewed. Yes, it was very steep."
