Virgil van Dijk admits Liverpool's afternoon could have been "a lot worse" had Harry Maguire scored in the final moments of their 2-2 draw
The Reds had fallen behind after Lisandro Martinez's powerful strike early in the second half
goals from Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah to put Arne Slot's side ahead going into the final 10 minutes.
Amad Diallo turned home Alejandro Garnacho's low cross to equalise and United could have won it when Maguire somehow directed Joshua Zirkee's pull-back over the bar
Van Dijk admitted he was disappointed with how Liverpool played after going ahead late in the game.
Van Dijk
“It could have been a lot worse if we are absolutely honest with ourselves.
“They had a big chance in the end that could have been a lot worse than where we are now. I
“Im definitely disappointed with dropping points at home but it is what is and we have to move on and we will.
“We found the 2-1 and then it is about trying to manage the game and keep the ball for longer than three and four passes.
“We lost the ball too easily at times and then we were more open than we should have been. We're not perfect, we're still learning and we have to learn from this as well."
Van Dijk rejected suggestions that Liverpool would even underestimate their bitter rivals
Van Dijk said
“That's all the media. Media talk. It's nothing to do with us. We prepared for a very tough game like we have seen today. We didn't think any of that."
He added: "We look at the next game, we don't look at the league table."
