Virgil van Dijk couldn't hide his emotion as he welcomed Darwin Nunez into the away dressing room just moments after his two-goal salvo rescued all three points
The Dutchman was sent off during the first half at St James' Park as he battled for possession with Magpies forward Alexander Isak
the Reds, mainly indebted to the heroics of Alisson Becker, fought to overturn Anthony Gordon's first-half strike
Nunez, summoned from the bench with 13 minutes of normal time remaining, fired two clinical efforts past Nick Pope
After the celebrations from Alisson, Nunez and Klopp had finished on the St James' Park turf, the Uruguayan was greeted by an ecstatic Van Dijk who was waiting outside of Liverpool's dressing room.
"COME ON," shouted the defended before welcoming Nunez for a warm embrace, which was swiftly followed by embraces with Joe Gomez and Alexis Mac Allister.
Nunez said:
"I feel very good. Very happy for the team, for the dedication of my teammates. They fought very well after the red card, which [meant] we had to play with 10 players.
"It's very difficult to keep a game like that, even more losing 1-0. The truth is that we had mental strength and we could control the game. I am very happy and very satisfied. But I would like to congratulate my teammates."
Van Dijk, meanwhile, will be suspended for next Sunday's game against Aston Villa after receiving the first red card of his Liverpool career.
