Klopp admits he couldn’t believe what he was seeing from Liverpool before a stirring comeback continued their impressive unbeaten run.
Second-half strikes from Cody Gakpo, Andy Robertson and a Hugo Bueno own goal earned the Reds a 3-1 Premier League triumph at Wolves
Liverpool, returning to action following the international break, were hugely disappointing in the first half
Klopp was taken aback by his team’s showing before a change in formation to 4-4-2
Klopp
“In the first half I thought a couple of times ‘WTF’,”
"We were not ready in the first half, obviously, but Wolves did really well on top of that. "
"You could see in these situations, when (Perdro) Neto walks through three players into the box (to set up the Wolves goal), we were not there. Last step, not there."
"I work with some of these boys seven, eight, nine weeks, and some longer, and I know when they can then they are there.
"Today, they couldn’t in a lot moments. You saw that with Macca (Alexis Mac Allister), you saw that with other players, they didn’t have the legs today.
“But I know as well after a long time, if you can get through a first half with a reasonable result, not being massively down, you can turn it."
"The team needed help and we could deliver the help a little bit with the changes and the change of system."
“Obviously they were completely different halves. Pretty much the same players first half looked a bit rusty and in the second half it looked much easier.”
Klopp added:
“Wolves played a super first half, we did a really bad one, and in the second half we were really good and controlled the game and kept going and scored one and then we needed a while to get the second.
“But we stayed calm. I liked that a lot. We didn’t rush, we didn’t just kick the ball anywhere.
"We really tried to play around, break lines. The 3-1 is a result I didn’t expect after 20 minutes and maybe not at half-time but during the second half we deserved the result.”
