Klopp announced his decision to step down as Liverpool manager back in January, with Alonso tipped as an early contender to replace him
Bayern Munich also wanted to bring him back to Bavaria after it was confirmed that Thomas Tuchel would also leave at the end of the season.
Alonso confirmed following the March international break that he had decided to stay put at Bayer Leverkusen.
Alonso has now opened up about his decision to resist any interest from Liverpool, and offered a coy answer when asked if he had spoken with his former club.

“That’s kind of behind the curtains,” he responded to CNN when asked if there had been contact with the Reds.
“All these decisions, they need to be thorough,” he said when explaining his decision to stay put.
“You need to really think about them. And it was more about what I had, not what I’m missing
“For sure, my bond with Liverpool is there and it’s still there. So there’s no, any kind of issue with that.”
