'You saw Newcastle' - Jurgen Klopp challenges Liverpool players ahead of 'intense' period

Klopp has challenged his Liverpool players to go "full throttle" during "the most intense period in world football" as a critical nine-game month begins at home to Fulham

The Reds boss insists he trusts everyone in his squad to contribute to what could be a hugely significant run in the overall season

Gakpo's two goals against LASK have moved the Dutchman up to six for the campaign with Klopp's five-man forward line now sharing a combined 39

Klopp believes he will need to use all of his options during a run that includes games at Anfield against Manchester United, Arsenal and West Ham United in a Carabao Cup

Klopp

"The boys don’t have to convince me in the games,"

"This is my squad, this is my team, and they play. If somebody is not in extremely awful shape and you think: 'My God what is going on with him?' - and that didn’t happen for a long, long time - then we just decide for the game and these kind of things.

"This is the most intense period in world football coming up now, that's how it is, for all the teams. So they will all play.

"We have already Diogo [Jota] not in [through injury] so that is not helpful and so we have to share these minutes with different players.

"They have to perform, not always 90 but 60/70 and full throttle, that's how it is. Darwin is in a top moment and that didn’t change.

"Super important for us and that he didn't start tonight has nothing to do with anything else. Now Cody scored twice, fantastic, does that mean he has to play the next five games in a row?

"Other players score as well, it's not about that, and Cody doesn't expect that. They have to score, that's the job, that's what they want, but it's not that I now have sleepless nights and don't know how to start. It's not that much a choice, to be honest."

Klopp added:

"I am not sure we can rotate all the time, I don't know, it depends on who is available. Tonight we could do it, that's why we did it. When you lose in Toulouse, people tell you too it's too many changes, no rhythm.

"I'd think it myself if I saw the game, is it the right decision? The problem is it's already done. We have to do it as long as we can but I don’t know if we can do it.

"You saw Newcastle playing in the Champions League with two goalies and three kids on the bench and a centre-half. That is really tough.

"We have to make sure we have as many available as much as you can have influence on it, which we don't have really.

"We watch it, take what we get, and go from there. As I said, the toughest period in world football is coming up and it's a good start tonight, now let's keep going."
